January 8
Wednesday night we were in St. Augustine. It is such a cool town! Lots of history and very tourist-y which I love! I found a gorgeous blue Venetian style mask but I had forgotten to bring my wallet with me. We had a yummy dinner in town and walked all around the shops. We also got to walk on to the grounds of Castillo de San Marcos, which is the fort in St. Augustine. It was late so we couldn’t go inside the fort, but we got to see all the moats and where the cannons were which was very cool.
Last night we were in Daytona beach. On the way to Daytona Beach we ran aground and were in one spot for about 45 minutes. It was alright though because we were in theis small stretch of channel with a pod of about 20 dolphins! They were swimming back and forth the whole time. They came right next to the boat a few times and the water was so clear we had a perfect view of them! It was definitely one of the best parts of the trip so far. It was also nice and sunny so we got to lay out on the boat, still in our sweatshirts, but a bit warmer then usual. My mom has friends in Daytona and they came over so we didn’t get the chance to walk around town like we usually do. We made pork, rice, yucca and beans for dinner which was delicious. Lucky was unusually friendly. He actually jumped up on our guest’s laps! He also was in the cockpit a lot, and even got on the dock at some point today I believe.
Today we motored down the ICW from Daytona to Titusville. It was a pretty short day, as we didn’t have far to go. We left about 9.30 this morning and got here about 4.30. The weather wasn’t too bad, although I stayed down below most of the day. We saw tons of dolphins today! They would jump up right next to the boat. A couple times we could even feel them pushing the bottom of the boat. We’ll be staying here a few days because of bad weather, so we decided to rent a car. Not only is it going to be cold and rainy, which would make bike riding difficult, but in order to get into town you have to take the highway. Well, we went to WalMart and got a lot of groceries. We’re going to cook quite a bit this weekend because on Monday or Tuesday we’ll do an overnight to Fort Lauderdale! We kind of had an unusual dinner. At WalMart they had a McDonalds and since James and I were really hungry we got some fries, and at the hot deli section of Walmart we got fried okra and chicken strips. So we had that about halfway through our shopping. When we were done at WalMart we went to sonic and got burgers and James and I got shakes. I got a cherry limeade cooler which was like lime ice cream but a bit creamier and softer then ice cream, but not quite a milkshake. I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it was good! We got back to the boat and put the groceries away and now we’re all very tired and relaxing on our computers and reading. Tomorrow we’re having some family over which should be fun!
