Hello!
My name is Mariah. I live on my boat Gitana del Mar with my parents Michael and Jennifer, my brother James and my cat lucky. We are currently sailing from Clinton, CT to Florida, and maybe even the Bahamas. In January we will leave the boat in FL and drive back home.
We left on Wednesday from Clinton and traveled to Milford, where we stayed two nights. This morning we left and are now in Manahasset Bay, NY. Due to the weather we’ll stay here until Sunday, and then we’ll make an overnight passage to New Jersey.
Sailing (or should i say motoring?) so far has been fairly uneventful. We’ve been headed west straight into the wind so we haven’t gotten to put the sails up yet, but hopefully Sunday we’ll be able to. I mostly cook on the boat, and clean. I’ve been baking bread about every other day. Before we left on our trip we made several meals and sealed them in airtight bags, so I’ve been able to just pop them open and heat them up. We’ve definitely been opting for the warm soups and stews!
My brother and I are homeschooled and we take experiences from daily life and learn from them. For example, we saw several fishing boats today, so we researched those a bit tonight. We also have a lot of free time on our hands, so I’ve been reading Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead. It’s great so far.
Hopefully I’ll post in this everyday, and I’ll post photos from time to time as well.
